TOURNAMENT RULES & POLICIES
RATING & SECTION ELIGIBILITY
OPEN
CFC + FIDE Rated
U2000 / U1500 / U1000
CFC Rated
Players must meet the applicable rating requirements for their selected section or play up.
Section eligibility will be determined using the player's latest applicable current CFC/FIDE rating.
UNRATED PLAYERS
Unrated players are eligible to register for the U1000 section only.
An unrated player may be approved to play in the U1500 section if they can provide evidence of playing strength or other relevant chess experience.
Approval for an unrated player to enter U1500 is at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
Unrated players are not eligible to play in the U2000 or Open sections.
BEST UNRATED
The Best Unrated prize will be awarded to the highest-scoring eligible unrated player in the U1000 section.
PLAY-UP POLICY
Players may play up to a higher section:
Within 50 rating points: +$30
Within 100 rating points: +$50
Play-up eligibility is based on the player's most current CFC/FIDE rating prior to event..
BYES
If you request bye(s), please confirm with us prior to the deadline of registration.
- Bye requests for the next round received during the tournament may only be accepted before the pairings of the next round are published, either on the internet or at the playing venue. Any bye requests received afterwards will not be accepted.
- If your bye is allocated by the computer pairings (ie. not your request), you will receive 1 point.
- If your bye is requested by you for round 1, 2 or 3, you will have 0.5 points per game
- If your bye is requested by you for round 4, 5, or 6 you will have 0 point.
- You cannot request byes for more than 2 rounds.
- Tournament Director (TD) reserves the right to refuse your bye requests

Tie-breaks will be applied in the following order:

2. Individual Cumulative Score
3. Cumulative Score of Opponents

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Players must comply with applicable FIDE Laws of Chess and CFC regulations regarding electronic devices.
Electronic devices must be handled according to the instructions of the Tournament Director and arbiters.
FAIR PLAY & PLAYER CONDUCT
All players are expected to:
Follow the FIDE Laws of Chess and applicable CFC regulations.
Respect opponents, tournament staff, and other participants.
Follow instructions from Tournament Directors and arbiters.
Maintain a quiet and respectful playing environment.
The Tournament Director has authority to resolve issues arising during tournament play, subject to applicable regulations.
LATE ARRIVAL
Late-arrival procedures will follow the applicable FIDE Laws of Chess and tournament regulations.
Players should arrive at their boards before the scheduled start of each round.
The forfeit time for the main tournament is one hour, while the Chess960 and blitz events' forfeit time is the entire time.
PAIRINGS & RESULTS
Pairings, standings, and tournament results will be published through ChessRoster.
Players should check their pairing before each round and report any issue to the Tournament Director as soon as possible.
WITHDRAWAL
Players who need to withdraw from the tournament must notify the Tournament Director or organizers as soon as possible.
Refund Policy
Withdrawals received on or before January 31, 2027: A full refund of the entry fee will be provided.
Withdrawals received after January 31, 2027: No refund will be provided.
No-Show
A player who fails to appear for a scheduled round without notifying the Tournament Director or organizers will be considered to have voluntarily withdrawn from the tournament.
No refund or other compensation will be provided for a no-show.
A player who is considered withdrawn due to a no-show will not be paired for any subsequent rounds of the tournament.
The Tournament Director reserves the right to take further action in accordance with applicable FIDE Laws of Chess and CFC regulations.
PRIZE CLAIMS
Prize winners will receive their awards as follows:
Trophies: Trophies will be presented at the Awards Ceremony on February 15.
Cash Prizes: Cash prizes will be e-transferred to the prize winners within one week after the tournament concludes.
RCC Tournament Credits: RCC tournament credits may be used toward registration fees for any RCC tournament held in 2027. The promo code BCOPEN25 must be entered when registering.
